The city of Perth is a busy and successful town set on the banks of the River Tay, Britain's largest river. Perth is also known as the gateway to the highlands of Scotland.

Perth was once the capital of Scotland. In nearby Scone (pronounced Scoon), the Kings of Scotland were crowned over the Stone of Destiny, which now lies in Edinburgh Castle. Perthshire is renowned for distilling whisky, with The Famous Grouse being based in Perth.

Many top Golf courses are close by - St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles, plus some excellent local courses. There are sports centres, a leisure pool and ice rink for the enthusiastic and the river itself is popular for fishing. The surrounding countryside is ideal for those who enjoy a casual stroll or more energetic hill walking.

Perth is an ideal base for a holiday to enjoy the scenery and many places of interest such as Scone Palace, Blair Castle, Glamis Castle, Caithness Glass Factory. Glenturret Distillery and Pitlochry's dam and fish ladder are all quite close to Perth.
