The original Road to the Isles was over the Corran Narrows and at the top of the ferry slipway on the Ardnamurchan side of Loch Linnhe lies the old Inn at Ardgour - awarded 3 Stars, Small Hotel by the Scottish Tourist Board. The family run Inn at the entrance to the Great Glen is widely known and loved for its food, drink and hospitality .. hospitality which has been offered here to travellers for hundreds of years ... the oldest part of the Inn is formed from the ferrymen's cottages built to replace those burned down by Hanoverian troopers from Fort William in 1746. Although the building has recently been modernised the traditional Highland welcome is still the same. All the rooms have been thoroughly modernised and all bedrooms are ensuite with a private shower room, tea-making facilities, television, central heating and a lochside view. All have stunning views of the mountains and Loch Linnhe. Each room has it's own individual character. The Hebridean islands of Mull, Iona and Skye are close enough for day trips. Good company, fine beers and a selection of malt whiskies measured the old Highland way. Running out of things to read, why not swap the books you've finished for books from the Inn's own library. Take your time to browse and enjoy a coffee or something stronger, this is probably the only library you will find inside a bar in the Highlands. In addition to the bar and restaurant the Inn offers a cosy, well appointed lounge where you can relax a while in front of the open fire as you watch the ferry ply to and fro across the Narrows.
