Craighall Castle is set in a stunning position right on the edge of the Highlands, two miles north of the village of Rattray in north eastern Perthshire. Steeped in history, it has been a family home since 1533. The self-contained Apartment provides excellent accommodation for up to 10 people, and is warm, comfortable and spacious. Taking up most of the first floor of the castle, its ground floor entrance leads directly into the garden and spacious parking areas for cars. The castle is perched like an eagle’s eyrie, on a promontory more than two hundred feet above the River Ericht and the spectacular Craighall Gorge. The surrounding estate is a veritable haven of tranquility, with wonderful wildlife including roe deer, red squirrels, peregrine falcons and otters, the latter which live on the riverbanks of one of Scotland’s most prolific salmon rivers. The estate is renowned for its fabulous woodland and cliff-top walks and is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. There are five acres of lawn and wild woodland garden immediately to the south of the castle and safe play areas for children make this the perfect location for family and fishing holidays. The surrounding area is superb for golf and touring, with literally dozens of golf courses within 45 minutes by car. Local courses include Rosemount, Alyth, Strathmore, Glenisla and the wonderful Dalmunzie 9 hole course at the top of Glen Shee. Historical attractions include Scone Palace, Glamis Castle and Blair Castle. Salmon fishing is available for three rods at a cost of £30 per rod per day on the Upper Craighall Beat of the River Ericht, a beautiful and productive beat in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
