Just some of the places to visit while staying in the area .....

Achiltibuie: dispersed crofting and fishing hamlets looking across to the Summer Isles.  A holiday centre for many with climbing, fishing and sandy beaches. Smokehouse and Hydroponicum.
Alligin and Diabaig: lovely villages on the coast of Loch Torridon.
Applecross: this series of hamlets was ancient Christian centre.
Aultbea  & Mellon Charles: old crofting townships.
Balgy: see those Salmon leap!
Bealach na Bo (Pass of the Cattle) often impassable in Winter, great views in Summer.
Corrieshall Gorge and Nature Reserve: a mile of truly wonderful scenery 12 miles south of Ullapool.
Dundonell: dispersed community along the side of little Loch Broom.
Dundonell House has gardens and Aviary.
Gairloch: golfing, fishing, windsurfing, walking on lovely sandy beaches.
Gruinard Hill: magnificent views; lovely sandy beach not far away.
Inverewe Gardens: the famous sub tropical gardens.
Inverpolly Nature Reserve: wild and beautiful with rare animals and plants. Visitor centre at Knockan.
Kinlochewe: on the edge of Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve, a haven for many birds and animals.
Lael Firest Garden: 17 acres of unusual tree specimens dating from around 1870.
Laide: on the coast of Gruinard Bay.  Ruined chapel believed to have been founded by St Columba; also, a cave once used as a place of worship.
Leckmelm Shrubbery and Arboretum: 10 acre Arboretum under restoration.
Loch Maree: historical centre of Christianity.  Also visited by Queen Victoria.
Lochcarron: an old village set on the side of Loch Carron.  It has a golf course and is good for hill walking.  Visit Lochcarron Weavers and Rassal Ash Wood.
Mellon Udrigle: lovely sandy beach.
Poolewe: a centre for walking and a place to holiday for many people.
Sheildaig: lovely crofting and fishing village.
Slattadale: spectacular views of Loch Maree; beginning of walk to Poolewe.
Summer Isles: boat trips to this haven for birds from Achtibuie and Ullapool.
Torridon: National Trust for Scotland centre set in beautiful, wild scenery.
Ullapool: the most important town in the area and nearly 250 years old.  Important as ferry terminal to Stornaway and Outer Hebrides.  Centre to stay in and with many outdoor activities.

Gairloch Marine Life Information Centre and Cruises owned and operated by a Marine Biologist Established in 1989, offer a variety of cruises to suit all ages and interests. Grey Seals, Dolphins, Porpoises and different bird life may be seen when following the coastline of Gairloch Bay, as well as the views inland. Rock climbing guides for about 20 crags in the area are available at the places listed below, and can be seen at the coffee shop tea room across the road from the post office at Poolewe. These are laminated AS cards showing colour photos of the crags with the routes shown, as well as grades and short descriptions. 

Walking guides for 6 of the best walks in the area. These are laminated A5 cards with detailed descriptions and maps. These can be bought in various places in the area - Coffee Shop, Poolewe; Tourist Office, Gairloch; Visitor Centre, Kinlochewe.
