Accommodation in Edinburgh city

You may also find the manoeuverable Google map below useful in exploring the area around the city centre of Edinburgh.  Use the + and - zoom and the arrow keys in the navigation tool at the left hand side of the map to explore the area.

Travel directions are appended below.

Auld Alliance is just 15 minutes from Princes Street (the main shopping area of Edinburgh situated right next to the Castle and the historic Royal Mile). It is easy to get around Edinburgh on foot and there is an excellent bus service if you get tired of walking - the bus stop is just 3 minutes walk. There are also many taxis, if you would prefer not to get the bus. For motorists, we have free (24 hours) parking just outside the house. It's a very safe area, but don't leave valuables in your car of course.

By Plane Edinburgh Airport has several daily connecting flights from the major London airports, as well as other centres around the UK and Europe. The airport bus, Airlink, runs regularly for 24 hours (it becomes the N22 service during the night) and departs from STAND 19 just outside the UK arrivals hall. Get off at the Blackhall traffic lights and then it’s a 5 minute walk. Alternatively you can take a 10 – 15 minute taxi ride from the airport to our door (cost about £10 - £15).

By Train From Waverley or Haymarket train stations (Haymarket is slightly nearer), it is a short taxi ride to our door (cost £8 - £15). Alternatively you can catch one of the many buses from outside the stations.

By Car
From the South or East (A1 and A68) Find Princes Street on the map. The A1 and A68 terminate at the east end of Princes Street. From the A1 you make a right turn from Waterloo Place on to the A900 (Leith). From the A68 you veer right from South Bridge on to the A900. In both cases, carry on down Leith Street until you reach a roundabout, at which point you veer left and carry on along York Place which eventually becomes Queen Street. At the end of Queen Street, you take the right hand traffic lights that lead on to St Colme Street and then follow the road round to the traffic lights at Randolph Crescent. Turn right on to Queensferry Street and follow the road over the Dean Bridge and past Stewarts-Melville College up to the lights beside the Holiday Inn (on your left). Continue through the lights along the main road, past the dip at the shops and then take the second right into Forthview Terrace. At the end of that street, you reach Telford Road, where you should turn right and we are 50 yards along on the left hand side (just before the speed camera!)

From the West (M8) Proceed all the way along the M8 until the final turn off prior to the junction at Hermiston Gait (Edinburgh North) You then join the Edinburgh By-pass (A68) which you should follow to the Gyle roundabout. Take the 2nd exit to join the A8 as far as the first set of traffic lights beside the Maybury casino, where you should turn left and follow the dual carriageway as far as the Barnton traffic lights. You should turn right at these lights and proceed along the dual carriageway, through 3 sets of traffic lights and then bear left at the 4th set of traffic lights (at Farmers repair centre). You are now on Telford Road and we are about 400 yards along on the left hand side (just before the speed camera!)

From the North (M90 over the Forth Road Bridge) Go over the bridge and follow the motorway and dual carriageway (M90 / A90) signposted to Edinburgh all the way to the lights at Barnton. Go straight through these lights and proceed along the dual carriageway, through 3 sets of traffic lights and then bear left at the 4th set of traffic lights (at Farmers repair centre). You are now on Telford Road and we are about 400 yards along on the left hand side (just before the speed camera!)
