Travelling to Colonsay

Use the + and - zoom and the arrow keys in the navigation tool at the left hand side of the map to explore the area around Cnoc nam Ban cottage.  The other 2 markers on the map below are the 2 ferry departure points from the mainland to Colonsay.

We will be happy to advise you on the best way to reach Colonsay, given your particular circumstances, but introductory travel information is printed below.

By Ferry

Most people arrive in Colonsay via a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Oban which operates 6 times/week in Summer, 3/week in Winter, taking 2¼ hours. On Wednesdays in Summer only, the ferry leaves from Kennacraig on the mainland, stopping at the island of Islay first of all before stopping at Colonsay and carrying on to Oban; it then returns via the same route.

Please note the importance of coordinating a ferry booking with the letting period of your holiday accommodation on Colonsay.  Please check with Caledonian MacBrayne in advance.

You can travel from Glasgow to Oban by train or bus.  Kennacraig is more easily reached by car.
