Hotel accommodation in Glasgow

The Kirklee Hotel is situated in Glasgow's leafy West End. Set in award winning gardens, the hotel forms part of Kensington Gate, a serpentine of red sandstone town houses, opposite a private park.

The Kirklee Hotel is entered Through a magnificent doorway and into the heavily panelled hallway. Numerous period and oriental paintings hang from the walls and potted plants are placed amongst the antique furniture.

There is a stylish guest lounge decorated with Edwardian opulence overlooking the private gardens through tall oriole windows. The room is decorated in gold and deep blue which offsets the dark woods of the period furniture, a magnificent carved Fremantle and original parquet flooring.

The Kirklee Hotel has nine bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms. All the rooms are uniquely furnished with high quality fabrics and original art on the walls. Other facilities in the rooms include television, hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities and telephone. Breakfast is served in the privacy of the guests' rooms which have tables by the windows.

The terrace was designed by David Barclay in 1902 and is built in the grand style of town houses of the period. The hotel has the ambiance and character of a large Edwardian home. All the public rooms retain the original style with period features, antique furniture and a fine collection of paintings and etchings, by Scottish and International artists.

The hotel has a quiet situation but is only a short walk from the many bars, restaurants and cafes of the West End's centre, Byres Road. Nearby are the Botanic Gardens, Glasgow University and Kelvingrove Art Gallery, while the city centre is less than 2 miles away. Glasgow has many fine buildings, including probably the best Victorian city centre anywhere.

The city boasts one of the world's great Universities, beautiful parks, world renowned art galleries, theatres and some of the best shopping in Europe. As well as being a city of immense interest in its own right, Glasgow's position makes it an ideal centre for touring. Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Trossachs, Burns Country and the Clyde Coast, for example, are all within an hours drive of the city.
