| Balhousie Castle, a large castellated mansion of 1860 designed by David Smart, incorporates a 16th-century L-plan tower house. It was held by the Eviot family until 1478, when it was sold to the Mercers, and passed in 1625 to the Hay Earls of Kinnoul. It was taken over by the army after World War II, and in 1962 became the regimental headquarters and museum of the Black Watch. The museum features pictures, medals, uniforms and other military mementoes, telling the story of the Black Watch from its founding in 1739 to the present day. |
