| Aikwood Tower is a fine rectangular 16th-century tower house. It was a property of the Scotts of Harden in the 16th century, and is said to be the birthplace of the 13th-century wizard, Sir Michael Scott of Balwearie. Little is known of his life, but he is said to have studied at Oxford, Paris and Padua, and in Toledo in 1217. He translated works of Aristotle, and was reputedly a wizard. Aikwood is now the home of Sir David Steel, last leader of the Liberal party. Exhibition of James Hogg, the well-known Scottish writer and poet. |
