| The large and stately palatial mansion, with a central block and flanking wings, dates from 1699, and was built by the architect William Bruce for the Hope family. Sir Charles Hope was made Earl of Hopetoun in 1703, and had the house remodelled by William Adam from 1721, the work being continued by John and Robert Adam. Fine interiors.
